  • New GPU GTX780ti MP5,1 not working

    Hi guys,

I have a mac pro mid 2010 5,1 that needed a better GPU to run resolve. I got a GTX780 ti but the Mac screen is black once its turned on. I realise I may not be in the right area for this but I’m desperate at this stage. Why is this happening, and once I get it ready, will it be compatible with resolve? I talked to a guy who mentioned openCL and Cuda? Bit lost….. Any help appreciated!

I assume you bought a PC card and not a Mac card. This is why the screen will be black on first boot. Only graphics cards designed for the Mac will show the boot screen. It should come alive once the OS comes up but if OS X doesn’t have drivers for the GTX780 it might not work at all. You didn’t say what version of OS X you are using. I believe you will need OS X 10.8.3 or later for the 3 GB version, and OS X 10.9.3 or later for the 6 GB version.

The other reason it might not work is not enough power. The Mac Pro only has two 6 pin GPU power cords and I believe that the GTX780 ti require a 6 pin and an 8 pin (which the Mac Pro doesn’t have). I’m not sure how you solved that one.
