I got a very good discount on a Rocketstor 6328L by Highpoint. I plan to use it to connect my Mac Pro (2014) to an eSata Granite Digital 8-bay external enclosure. It’s for editing HD and 4K video as well, so I certainly need the speed.

What I didn’t catch when I bought the Rocketstor is that it is only Thunderbolt, not Thunderbolt 2. Since Thunderbolt is faster than eSata anyway, does it make a difference whether I have Thunderbolt (1) instead of Thunderbolt 2?

If all you’re using is the one eSATA enclosure, your bottleneck will be eSATA, which, as you said, is slower than Thunderbolt anyways. It shouldn’t make too much of a difference, if any.
