  Lion booting to Mac OS X Utilities

  Good morning all,

  Fresh, clean install of Lion; when I boot up, I get Mac OS X Utilities instead of the OS/Desktop. If I close Utilities, I get the start up disk selection prompt, my Lion Start up disk is already highlighted, so I just reboot and everything is OK, the machine reboots to the desktop. Any idea how I could have it boot directly to the desktop without having to go through this extra Mac OS X Utilities step?

  When you got to system prefs/Startup Disk, is macintosh HD selected?

  Hi,

  I have 2 drives, one with OS X 10.6.8 where my other editing software resides and a second drive, with Lion, v. 10.7.4 and that one is definitely selected in the system preferences / start up disk.

  Try resetting your PRAM. It’s kind of like shock therapy for your mac.

  Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
  Shut down the computer.
  Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
  Turn on the computer.
  Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
  Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  Release the keys.

  Hi,

  Thanks for your suggestion. Zapped the PRAM, same result. Mac OS X Utilities at start up. I get to the desktop if I close the Utilities, select the already selected boot drive and reboot so it’s more an annoyance than anything but I’d still like to get it resolved.
  I’ll keep looking.
