Is there any way to hook up my laptop (17 inch macbook) to my desktop (2x 2.8 14gb ram mac pro) both are running 10.6.7.

I would like to utilise the laptop to do some of the long renders I have for composite videos.

I am a network no nothing so any assistance would be appreciated!

I presume when you say ‘render’, you mean rendering in FCP – i.e. adding effects? Or, is this another application? (After Effects, etc.)

FCP v.1-v.7 does not support distributed rendering. Distributed encoding, via Compressor over an ethernet network, *is* supported. You may also want to look into creating a ‘virtual cluster’ with Compressor, which will greatly speed up encodes & transcodes in Compressor on a single machine. Again, this is NOT rendering….but I wanted to spell them both out if there was any terminology confusion.

“What about FCP X – due out in June? Who knows.

Thanks, yeah I was talking about FCP, composite with a bit of color work and a couple red giant effects and I’m getting hour long renders on 5 minute pieces. I encode in telestream episode because I can keep on working while it is chugging away in the background.

Anything to share the load would be wonderful… Apple…. anyone out there?
