flying mouse
Posted by Nick Kypros on June 25, 2010 at 2:09 amAnybody have mouse problems?
Recently my mighty mouse cursor will suddenly fly off to one of the four corners of my monitor. I’ve tried several other mice but they react the same way, looking for cheese I guess. I’m on a G5 dual 2 GH PowerPC. Anybody have any ideas?Thank you,

June 25, 2010 at 9:25 amWhat surface are you using your mouse on? Is it the wired or wireless mighty mouse? (that does actually make a difference).

June 25, 2010 at 5:59 pmHi Tom,
Thank you for your response. It’s a wired mouse on a mouse pad on a slightly angled drawing desk.
Thanks

June 26, 2010 at 6:44 amI’ve been having the same issue at my studio. Still haven’t figured it out, but it only happens with the mice, and not my trackball and wacom.

June 26, 2010 at 7:35 amEven though you have a mouse mat, a lot of laser mice are laser sensors not optical (google the difference if you care). What this means is that you should make sure the surface you use for it is set up for that- the mousemat should have no design on it or anything, it should not be used on a White or paper surface or on a surface with any texture (ie wooden table). Some mouse mats work with optical mice but are too shiny for laser mice or have part of the design which is White which will reflect the laser- even a piece of square cardboard would be better:)

June 27, 2010 at 9:55 amI had big troubles with this until I stopped using my orange mouse pad. I stopped using a mouse pad at all with my MS Intellimouse and apart from the rare flyoff (and it always goes to the screensaver hot corner…) it’s all been good.

June 29, 2010 at 7:15 amI’ve had it happen at multiple places though, all different studios/desks/pads, and the only thing in common is the Mighty Mouse.

July 17, 2010 at 8:47 pmHi Thomas Morter-Laing,
Regarding the flying mouse. I swapped out keyboards, mice and even reinstalled the OS, but you were right. I swapped out mouse pads and my mighty mouse performs perfectly. Thanks for taking the time.
Again thanks,
nick kypros
