  Best choice for a 2nd monitor for G5 PMac 1.6Ghz – PCI card or ADC adaptor

  I wasn’t sure which category to put this post on, so it’s here…

  I’ve been looking for the best and most inexpensive way to add a second monitor to my G5 PowerMac, 1.6Ghz.

  I’m running Mac OS 10.4.6, currently using the DVI monitor out port to run an LCD monitor, using 1440 x 900 resolution, and I can go either DVI to DVI or DVI to VGA for that one.

  For the second monitor, I can possibly use an ADC – DVI adapter (I’ve found the $99 Apple one, the $50 Gefen or the the $40 Dr. Bott).

  Or, I can get a PCI card, of which I’m still confused which ones will work, and are recommended.

  I will use the second monitor mainly for audio, some video — nothing intensive like gaming.

  Does anyone have any recommendations, or advice on what to avoid?

  I would go with a ADC adapter… I am sure the Dr Bott will be fine, it’s not that complicated, it’s basically wires that need to be re-wired. And I would also try to get my hands on a second monitor that’s the same as the other one you have already…
