Just trying to understand how Windows works on a Mac…

Is Windows (in its many variants) in ’emulation’ even when it runs on a separate partition on the hard drive?

I am involved in running multimedia at our church but the leader seems to have a liking for running everything to the data projector off the XP platform on the iMac. I am keen to run everything from OSX and ditch Windows Media in favour of Quicktime (which opens nicely in full screen mode automatically from the preferences).

No. When you set up a separate Windows partition using Boot Camp Assistant, you are in essence creating a completely separate computer. When you boot to Windows XP, your iMac is a PC, running Windows natively.
