  • Yet another question about MacPro + RAID advice.

Currently I have a Mac Pro (2007) with 4x 500gb drives set up as a RAID+5 with a 100gb partition for my system, using the Apple RAID card.
I’ve been having performance issues, not real bad, but my MacBook Pro (purchased at the same time) will regularly out preform the tower. I’ve been looking around and it seems that I did a poor job setting up my RAID. If I’m going to have IT come in here and fiddle with my computer again I want to be sure it’s worth it, I’m sure you understand.
What would you recommend? Say, one drive for system and RAID+0 the other 3, then back up onto a firewire drive daily? Or do you think a system drive with the other three RAID+5 would be ok.
I work, almost exclusively, in CS3 Production Premium. Lots of photography and post production, and lots of short (1-10 min) SD videos.
Thanks for your help. I know people ask this question all the time, but I couldn’t quite find the exact information I was looking for.
