  Dilemma, advice sought

  I have inherited a couple of G4’s that I would like to use as servers. The catch is that they came without the information regaring name or password and sans a CD for the OS wich appears to be OS9. I have an OS X license/CD and would like to erase the drives and load the new OS, Any suggestions? When I place the OS X CD on the tray and boot up I get the name/ password window.

  hold the “C” key down on the keyboard when you reboot. you might have to hold it for a while. that should force the computer to boot from the os on the CD..
