  • Is it possible to change an administrator/user name on a G5?

Posted by John West on September 22, 2007 at 7:38 pm

    Hi, all.

I bought a G5 dual 1.8 four years ago and am running OSX 10.4.9.

Is it possible to change the user/administrator name on it and completely replace the old one with the new without jeopardizing any files? Is so, how?

    Thanks!!

    John

User name yes, short name NO.

it is done in the system preferences under accounts.

If you want a new short name you will have to create a new user account, give it administrator rights and then move any files over to the new account.

AND DONT EVEN THINK OF JUST RENAMING THE USERS FOLDER WITH A NEW SHORT NAME, YOU ARE ASKING FOR A WORLD OF TROUBLE TO FALL ON YOUR HEAD.
