Networking: renaming drives
With AppleCare help, I was finally able to see my PC network’s drives on my MacPro.
But an old habit of lazily naming hard drives has caught up with me.
The Finder displays the individual drive letters, rather than the “tree,” with the result that Finder displays several C drives. So in one of the PCs I renamed the various PC hard drives with their host computer’s name, e.g. “HP-C,” “Dell-C,” etc. Problem is, the other PCs and the Mac retain the original, more confusing names.
Is there a file I should erase on the Mac in order for the Mac to see these new drive names?
I am still unable to see the Mac from my PCs, incidentally. If there is a paper on that which you know about, could you please point me to it?
Thanks!
