  G5 crashes when shut down

  Hi,

  my G5 crashes when I shut down. It takes a moment to shut down but then crashes and the screen turns
  black with error transperent message.
  Its a 2 GHZ G5, 8 gig, with the latest os x.

  Any suggestions before I have to wipe out and reinstall everything?

  Use the console to check your crash logs to see if any discernible info is there.

  Run the Apple Hardware Test of the Power Mac Install Disc.
  (be prepared for it to take a few hours with 8 gigs of ram installed)
