  Type Animation Question

  Hey guys,
  I was following creative cow for a long period of time now, but finally I registered here and start of with a question.

  I was trying to figure out how I could achieve this type effect which is used in this movie:

  I mean the floating lines and twirls in the type.
  I played around with cc smear and cc split, also with particular, but I think it’s not the right method.
  Does anyone have a clue how to achieve this or at least a similar effect?

  Thanks Butch! On the said page, it says that the text and its effects were 3D models done entirely in Maya. It was however Time Remapped in AE.

  If I were try doing this is AE, I would look at displacement mapping. In fact, you may be able to improve on the original by using FreeFormAE to displace the text and add some 3D moves on it. FreeForm AE will displace the text in 3D space. Then animate the text with a little y-rotation.

  To achieve the parts where the text seems to have long flowy strings, I would add mask shapes and animate the mask path.

  Of course, it’s easier said than actually doing it. 😉

  Those flowing lines look like a fluid simulation — probably RealFlow.

  To try to do this in AE, I think that Particular and Form, and possibly 3D Stroke (all from Trapcode / Red Giant), are your best candidates.
