  • Movie Clip within Text (transparency)?

I saw the new Medal of Honor commercial and loved how there was a black explosion within the white title text.

I am wondering what would be the easiest way to do this, or at least, what would I have to do to make a movie clip (or anything) appear within the text, but not spill into the background surrounding the text?

I imagine there is some sort of transparency technique going on here.

I am a little rusty in After Effects, but I can think of a few methods that just seem like too much work for a short title sequence.

I would be grateful if someone could even point out a tutorial I could look over.

    Thanks for the help.

Duplicate text layer once you are done with all animation, use the top layer as a track matte for any footage you want to appear within the text (place that layer in between the two text layers).

The text layer will be your mask for the video so it will go above the video layer.
Then make sure your modes are showing by hitting the toggle modes and switches icon on bottom of panel.
Then choose alpha matte from the drop down choices in the track matte options.
