  • Timecode Time-Of-Day Drift?

    Greetings,

I have a question regrading timecode. I cannot remember what piece of gear I was using when I saw this (ether the Sounddevices 633 or the Canon EOS C300 camera) but, as I was setting it up to run timecode at 23.98p, using freerun as time-of-day, I got a message saying something to the effect of ‘When using clock or time-of-day mode, timecode will drift at 23.98p’. I may not have that exactly right but, I’ve seen this message twice so far.

    Any advice would be great!

    Best,

    DCJ

    23.976 fps has a framerate of ?
Now, that is displayed as 24, as there are no fractional numbers in frames.
So, after one second, the TC says 24, where in fact it should say 23.976.
Here is the source of the drift, it’s 0.1 % off.
For this very reason drop frame was invented, to stay in sync with the ‘time on the wall’
That does not exists in 23.976.

    Clear now?
