Wireless setup
‘m a video guy new to using the 5d. I have my Sony PMW-320 all hooked up with this audio gear:

Now, I’m looking for the best way to adapted it to my 5d. My AT dual receiver has two TA3F outs…that I have going into the back of my video camera with two male xlr cables. Do I just need to run a female XLR from my transmitter to the mini jack in my 5d? Will that still deliver the best sound? Can I only record the one channel that is plugged in or will a xlr y-cable splitter work to record both channels independently?
Is this the only thing need for it to record to two independent channels on my 5D? Is there an easier way? I’m sorry if someone has answered this already…I’ll take link to anything that will be helpful. Thank you in advance.

Off the top of my head, the Y-splitter is all you should need. It’s not like you’re changing from mic/line or hi-z/lo-z — it’s mic level all the way through the chain.
I haven’t used my 5D’s internal recorder in a while, but I don’t think they ever updated the firmware to unlink the gain for each stereo channel. The Magic Latern firmware might do it.
I don’t know if your wireless packs have gain adjustments but if they do and you like adjusting them rather than the recorder, you may want to run a test signal to figure out what audio gain setting on the 5DmkII produces unity gain (basically if a test tone reads -6 on the pack, it will read -6 on the camera’s meters).
