  • Pronounced hum in Canon XL-2, no support from Canon.

I have owned my Canon XL-2 since they came out, and about a year after I bought it (with a relatively small amount of use) I noticed a pronounced hum on all tapes when recording. The hum registers clearly on the meters, and is quite loud on playback. I changed out the mic and the hum was still there.

I sent the camera to Canon years ago and they said the camera was within normal operating limits. But any layman can hear this hum. I moved on to a VX-2000 and then Panasonic, but have not sold the XL-2 because I don’t want to foist the hum on anyone else. Has anyone heard of this problem with the XL-2 before? I love the image this camera produces, but this hum is intolerable.
