  external mic for 5D ?

  Hi..

  Can anyone recommend a good external microphone for the canon 5D mk2 that wont break the bank?!

  I want something for all round use; the first thing I want to use it for is to try film a live music performance, [although I will have the possibility of syncing it to the live track afterwards].. I think a hotshoe mounted one would be best.. Also, can anyone comment on whether or not I am best to use the magic lantern firmware if using an external mic to overide the automatic gain control?
