I’m interested in buying a Canon XH-A1. I’ve never edited any HDV footage and I’m wondering how much of a hit the computer takes.

    Current setup:
    iMac
2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    ATI Radeon X1600, 256 MB

Also a MacBook Pro with slightly lower stats.

Will these computers be able to handle footage from the XH-A1?

    Nate,

Assuming you mean to edit with FCP 6.0.4, your laptop at least will handle it, not sure about your iMac.

You should put 4 gigs RAM in the laptop. You will be able to capture to ProRes which is much better to edit with than HDV which is really poor to edit with. There is a boatload of info on this on the FCP forum.

    Have a wonderful day.

    i have a xha1 and i edit with a macbook pro.

    2.0 ghz intel core duo
3 gb ram (will soon upgrade to 4)

i would suggest you use an external hd that uses a raid system to store all of your work when capturing to lessen the risk of your main hd crashing under heavy workloads
