  XL1 question. did I put it in a mode on accident?

  Hello, my company just got a used XL1. I’m trying to learn how to use it and have gone through the video and looked in the manuel and still can’t figure out if I’m doing something wrong.
  When I put a new tape in and shoot my footage it records. I can look at play back and I can capture into final cut. But if I rewind the tape and try to shoot over what I recorded it won’t let me. It seems like sometimes it records, and other times it doesn’t. Is it possible that I did something that I didn’t realize and that is why it’s not recording all the time?

  Side note- could it have something to do with the fact that even when I charge my batteries it says that they’re almost empty?
