Hi, I have a new camera that will power on in the VCR Play and Ext. Cont. modes to let you see what has been shot, but it will not power on when the dial is on A, TV, AV or any of the recording modes.

I have already tried switching the standby/lock switch. See this thread: https://dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=108440
But that did not fix the problem.

    You guys are scaring me!

At BHphoto there are 30 Canon reviews, 3 of which describe the issues mentioned above.

How disappointing. I have been following Canon for 15 years now and of the 3 bigs (Sony, Panny) I have never seen a camera with a worse history of issues than Canon.

This is tough because I was seriously considering jumping in and grabbing an A1. After all the posts about cameras “crapping out” during shoots I’m not sure I can afford the liability.

Truth be known, I have never been a Sony fan but I have never seen one go down in 20 years.

I guess you need to contact Canon.

Big torpedo…..I was almost sold and now I’m waffling. I guess you can buy the extended warranty but then you add $400 to the price of the camera.

    Good luck.

Panny DVX-100’s but changing so Sony or Cannon HDV soon.
