Hello John,
Nice to hear from you.
You are correct in that Canon’s Console software is similiar to the other products you mention. However, Console is designed specifically for Canon’s XL2, XLH1 and the new XH A1/ G1 cameras to allow extensive customization of the camera’s internal image preset control per your needs. It’s a great way to gain exclusive control over the entire image during a shoot – not to mention you also have the ability to record your video directly to your PC via the FireWire connection.
Console also allows you to store your customized image presets and load them back into your XL or XH camera(s) whenever you need to. This is a very handy tool for matching multiple XL or XH cameras together.
Think of Console as a robust software-based external Camera Control Unit (CCU) with many of the controls you would expect to find on a professional broadcast external CCU that also offers custom presets and direct to PC recording via FireWire.
Please do keep in touch and do let us know if you have any other questions or comments.
Thank you John,
– don
