  • XL HI Horizontal Resolution in SD?

Posted by David Fortin on June 7, 2006 at 9:13 pm

Is there a way to compare the SD Horizontal Resolution of the XL H1 to other cameras? For example the Sony DSR-450 DVCAM is rated at 850 TV lines in 4:3 and 900 TV lines in 16:9.

This is the “camera” performance. Are these new digital cameras not rated in the same way?

I don’t need HDV now and I’m looking at some options to replace my BetaSP camera which was rated at 850 TV lines of Horizontal Resolution.

Any guidance or advice in this area would be appreciated.

    David,
I traded in my DSR-570 and bought an XLH1 because I wanted another camera which could do 24F and 30F. I am sure the DSR-570 was sharper in NTSC and had better depth of field becasue of the 2/3 inch chips. The Canon doesn’t look bad it just looks more like a 1/3 inch chip camera compared to the 2/3 inch chip cameras. If you shoot in HDV however the extra resolution you record is very significant which the NTSC camera couldn’t.
