I’ve been shooting using Fujifilm in my Canon GL2 and have always used a Sony GV-D1000 (mini VCR) to capture the tape into my computer to save wear and tear on the camera. I’ve finished capturing all the Fuji, and have decided to upgrade to Panasonic pro tapes from here on out, so I got my camera cleaned at the factory before switching brands, but am unsure what to do about the Sony clamshell. It’s not viable to get it profesionally cleaned, yet I’m reluctant to use a head cleaner on it, since they’re supposed to be so abrasive (did so once in its life, several months ago), but I’m also afraid to switch tape brands in it without doing something. Need to make a decision very soon so all thoughts out there appreciated on this.
    thanks-

I use different brands interchangably all the time in my Sony GV-D1000.

    Sony, Panny, Fuji, Maxell.

I never clean the heads… never need to.

Thanks Thax–wish I’d read your post earlier–I needed to move forward with capturing the Panny tape and so I just bit it and used a head cleaner. Oh well. thanks-
