Recently I was offered a Canon XM1 DV cam for US$1000, it has had around 20 hours of operation but has sat in a box for 2 years.

Is it worth the purchase? I know that I can get a Canon XM2 for only slightly more, however it would not be nearly as new, what are the diferences betweeen the models?

I will use the camera as a stop gap whilst in between a cheap mini dv camera and a Sony HVR-Z1P or whatever other HD cameras are on the market when I finally get around to getting one.

What I want in a camera is good colour pickup, a reasonable amount of manual control, good lens, and the ability to shoot at a reasonably low light level.

    Thanks
