CS5 Rotoscoping workflow
Posted by Jack Fox on September 13, 2010 at 10:22 pmI edit video using FCP and need to remove some folds (wrinkles) in clothing on an actor. I have not worked with CS5 or AE and am wondering about the practicals of getting an FCP timeline into AE for rotoscoping.

September 13, 2010 at 11:35 pmYou can use a program called Automatic Duck… it goes from Final Cut to AE and splits all of your edit points into layers… with transitions coming across… it does have some limitations though..
If it’s just a few shots… just export QT movies.. import into After FX and Roto Roto Roto..

The Final Cut 2 After Effects script will allow you to bypass that and simply use the footage that has already been imported into Final Cut.

September 14, 2010 at 8:01 pmIf I use automatic duck, can I import it back into fcp (for additional editing) after I roto brush; also, how do I get it into DVD Studio?

September 14, 2010 at 8:21 pmNormally I just render the treated sections from after fx and cut them back in the edit.
For DVD studio you would just import your final rendered movie.

September 14, 2010 at 8:33 pmWhat do you mean by “simply use the footage that has already been imported into Final Cut.” Do you mean the timeline that contains my edited footage, that could be edited send back and forth to CS5 using the script?
