  Trouble Burning DVD from StudioPro

  ISSUE:
  I took an .mov file that I created in Final Cut Pro and imported it into StudioPro for authoring, however I am having difficulty producing a viewable product after burning a DVD. I no longer have the original Final Cut Pro file, as there have been computer problems from which data was dumped during a file backup process. I have summarized the video project specifics below so that who ever I correspond with would understand how I went about its production and authoring. My hope is that a knowledgeable source would help me resolve this matter.

  COMPUTER with INTERNAL DISC BURNER:
  Mac 0S X 10.5.8
  Internal Disc Burner:
  Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D
  DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
  Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO

  VIDEO PROJECT:
  Created in Final Cut Pro 6.0.6
  Video length = 2 hours 9 minutes and 09:24 seconds
  Video Track = 1
  Chapters = 21

  Standard Definition
  720 x 480 (576i)
  NTSC – CCIR 601
  32-bit floating point

  Audio Track = 1
  Audio Stream = 1
  Average bps = 1,536,000
  Rate = 48.0 KHz

  VIDEO AUTHORING SOFTWARE:
  StudioPro Version 4.2.1

  Final Authored Project = 1 main menu, 1 chapter menu, 1 video track; 1 audio track
  4:3 Letterbox
  Video Clip estimated size = 3.9 GB
  Audio Clip estimated size = 1.5 GB
  Total Track estimated size = 5.5 GB
  Expected estimated output size = 5.7 GB

  OUTPUT GOAL:
  Burn finished project to –
  Red Laser disc, DVD-9, Single-sided, Dual-layer, 8.57GB, 12cm

  PROBLEM:
  Several failed burn attempts, even after changing StudioPro preferences and using two types of discs

  BURN-TO MEDIUM:
  Disc A used in 1st failed attempt –
  Specifications = RW DVD + RDL 2.4x 8.5GB
  minutes unknown (original packaging not available)

  Disc B used in 2nd failed attempt –
  Specifications = Recordable DVD+R DL 8x 8.5GB 240 min

  FAILED BURN RESULTS:
  Authored project burned to Discs A & B produces same results when playing DVD –
  1) Both burn attempts bring up the words “data disc”
  2) Neither burn attempts show the authored project

  Play-back on –
  Sony Blu-ray Disc Player Model BDP-S301, likely a 2007 model
  Main Features = backward compatible player with DVD upscaling to 1080p; True Cinema to view movies at original frame rates

  What does several failed burn attempts mean exactly?

  I burned several times to both types of discs, and still got “data disc” and no video viewing capability.

  I’ve been advised to click the Graphical tab background to bring up the Inspector and to make sure the radio button is selected to SD. I am doing that now. I have used the Inspector when clicking various assets, however I did not realize that clicking a background — usually reserved for deselecting items in programming — would bring up the tool to inspect a track.

  Beyond making sure youre set to SD, I not sure what your doing wrong?

  BTW…no need for uncompressed audio (aif). Use AC3 and you can put this onto a single layer disc.

  Thank you for the tip. It was the SD issue. I have successfully burned my discs. I will certainly remember how to save disc space using the AC3 format next time.
