  Basic External Burner- Pioneer VS. Lacie?

  Hi All,

  The burner in my Quad Core Intel Mac Pro died. The production does not have time to have it replaced at the apple store, so we are looking for an external burner as a temporary solution. I just need a reliable machine to burn SD DVD’s from DVDSP, Disk Utility, and Toast. Any recommendations? I’m looking at a basic Lacie and Pioneer. Any reason these would not work?

  Pioneer- better reputation, although the in computer drive that died is a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D! Also specs do not specify that it’s Mac compatible but I understand it is?

  Mos definitely Pioneer. Also- it’s not that hard to install a new internal burner…

  I agree with Noah. Check out – https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/optical-drives/superdrives/
  As long as you’re needing a new drive, why not consider a Blu-ray? This site also provides some easy to follow directions to help with the installation. A few years back, I bought one of their Blu-ray burners as a second internal drive and installed it into my old MDD G4… took me less than an hour… and I generally work slowly and carefully. Later, it was just as painless to remove and install as the second drive when I upgraded to my current Dual Core Intel. Whatever you get, just make sure it’s compatible with all the Apple OS applications you use. If it “talks” with iTunes, iPhoto, DVD Player, etc., it should work with anything.
