HD to MPEG2 Looks Bad
I am using a Sony PMW EX3 to record football games of my son’s team. When I make a DVD they look very blotchy. I think I have isolated the problem to the transcoding from the native XDCAM EX codec to MPEG2. I can create beautiful digital files or BluRay Discs but DVD,…not so good. I have tried every combination I can think of in Compressor, DVD Studio, Encore,..But I can’t quite get the pixelation(SP) issue solved. Does anyone know of a better way to transcode? Basically there is a very good method for downscaling on the PC, and so far no method on the Mac can compare. There are suggestions in the blog post that will get you better looking results, but none that compare to the PC method.

..I have an EX-3 and I’m very happy with the DVDs produced from my HD files with Vegas 9pro (PC) ….. I’ve read some posts about problems with DVDs from HD files and many “workarounds” and tips… not for me… my DVDs look gorgeous even better on LCD large TVs….
