I recently purchased an older standalone unit from AKAI (DVDRW120 – evidently manufactured by Liteon Corp) just to avoid tying up my computer when I occasionally record something off air, and it also records closed captioning (CC) to a disk from these broadcast presentations. I have a number of my own broadcast programmes (200+)and have wanted to repurpose them for both archival as well as for DVD presentation.

However, they need a bit of editing, but once I’ve digitized these analog tapes, line 21 captioning is lost. I wouldn’t mind if they were sent to subtitles, but can’t seem to find anyway of striping out the captioning to a separate file.

Naturally, I don’t want to spend a fortune on doing this.

Thanks for any leads or information in regard to closed captioning.
