Can anyone suggest the best DVD authoring package to use with a new Final Cut editing suite. Obviously we’re running FCP5 but have heard that there can be some issues regarding industry standards etc using Studio Pro for authoring. Have been checking out Cinema Craft and Sonic as possible alternatives – but are these for PC operating systems only?

DVDSP is your only real bet. What kind of issues with DVDSP are you refering too? Its not a perfect authoring platform but its darn close for $500.00

Forgot to add – you can try and get a used Creator system which sonic discontinued making. it also only works with OS 9.

Eric is right, for the Mac, DVDSP is the only professionnal dvd authoring software (Sonic Creator and Sonic Fusion are discontinued but still useable, if you can find one used, go for it). Like Eric said, its not totally perfect since it uses a abstraction layer that prevents you to have complete control on dvd specifications, but it makes it easier to use. You can edit a lot of professionnal titles without having any issues, but for more complex projects where you need to have tight control on dvd specifications, you will have to look on something like Sonic’s products. You also have DVD-lab Pro (199$), that is considered by some pros as Scenarist’s jr.
