  set-up (blk levels) for DVDs

  Can anyone out there point me to a source for DVD specs that address the issue of black level?

  When playing back DVD discs (one from NFL Films and one from PBS) I noticed that black levels are at
  0 ire when played back on players that don’t have black level (on the output stage) adjustment. Is there an assumption that all DVD players can add 7.5 units of black? In the case of a highly rated JVC recording/player, there is no way to adjust blk level on either the input or output stage.

  Any help would be appreciated.
