VCR Pause Effect
I hope somebody here can point me in the right direction. I’d like to create an effect where I pause a video for a few second, and it should look like you press the pause button on a VCR. I can manage the instant stutter, but how would I create the distortion and degrading that’s so typical for a VCR, in a convincing way?

Now that you mention it, I can’t really remember what a crummy paused VHS deck looks like, either.
