  • How to film a 360 degree rotating shot of a car

Posted by Vincent James on April 1, 2014 at 11:03 am

I am hoping some of the users on this forum will have ideas on how to achieve this. I am trying to film a stationary car and the create a 360 degree shot. I am using a entry level Sony camera. Any ideas on how this can be done? This will be outdoors.
    Thanks
    Vincent

The camera you use likely doesn’t matter as to how the mechanics of the shot are designed, but I think you’ll need to clarify a bit what exactly you mean by “film a stationary car and the create a 360 degree shot.”

Not sure what that means exactly, that could be interpreted a number of different ways.

You can rotate the car on a giant turn-table, or you move the camera around the car in a circle, typically using tracks and a dolly that rides the tracks. These days, the third option is to use a fully CGI car and do the rotation in an animation program.

I have used CAMTREE Gripper G-10 for 360 degree rotation car shots. It was fabulous as is helped me holding my camera strongly and gave me marvelous in and out shots. My Friend is using CAMTREE G-21 and i have also shared it & found if very effective in capturing low angle shots while the person is on the move.
