Canon XF300 and Canon XF100
OK im using a canon xf300 at the moment and a 7D as my second camera. Im having trouble matching up the footage from these two cameras, the xf 300 looks amazing where as the 7D looks a mess when filming inside.
So my question is, im toying with the idea of buying an xf100 to use as my second camera. Does anyone know if these 2 cameras will play nice together? Do the colours match up or match up as close as they can do. Is the picture quality of the xf100 on par with the xf300, i understand the differences between the cameras im just wanting to know if it using these 2 cameras together will create a better editing work flow. As ive found whilst filming with the 7d and xf300 when it comes to editing no matter how hard ive tried to match them up they still look very very different.
any input would be great.

We shoot with a 5D and a CF100 and we have gotten them to look very close…the CF300 with quite a bit more detail and the 5D perhaps a bit softer but pretty darn nice.

David. I have an XF305 and an 7D. I bought an XF105 because I could not get the 7D footage to match close enough for my tastes. It just doesn’t look at good as a XF300/305. Why? Perhaps it’s the MXF format tied to a 4:2:2 color space. I have stopped trying to get the two (7D and xf305) to match and instead use the xf100/105. There still can be a slight difference, due to the sensors (1 vs. 3), but over all, it’s a very close match. I would recommend using a xf100/105 as a B camera to the 300.
I’m sorry, I didn’t quite understand Rich’s comments. I assume he is not shooting with a c100 yet, as that camera isn’t yet released. Perhaps he mistyped the message.

@David Hare, just wondering what you ended up with for a 2nd camera. I’m looking at picking up an XF300 and will be looking for a B cam. I currently shoot with 2 Canon XHA1s.

Hi Alex, I ended up with the xf100 and to be honest once you’ve had a play with the setting its pretty spot on as a second camera to the xf300. The colours are an almost perfect match much better then having the 7D as a second camera.

@Rich Rubasch, I did not understand your answer in this thread. When you said, “We shoot with a 5D and a CF100” did you mean the ‘XF100’ or the ‘C100’ or some other camera? Same thing with your use of the ‘CF300’ Is that an ‘XF300’?
I am looking for a 2-camera setup, one of them possibly an XF300. I thought of a 5D Mk II or III as 2nd camera. I know an XF100 would be a good match, but I would like something with changeable lenses – and maybe shoot stills.
Since the original poster had trouble matching the 7D with an XF300, I wonder if the 5D DSLR got better results matching with an XF300.

I have been shooting with a 7D as well, and wanted a second camera, so I bought a 60D, it’s the same chip! That is the only way to “match” cameras. Using a camera with 3-CCD’s of vastly different size will always be a problem if you want the same look. The xf100/105 uses one,small, CMOS sensor, will it be closer to the xf300 or the 7D/60D? Has anyone tried to inter-cut with good results?
