  • LETUS EXTREME: How to Evaluate for Purchase

I’d like to purchase a Letus Extreme, used.

What should I look for to evaluate a particular unit? -In addition to the condition of the glass-

    Anything with the motor?
What can happen to the Ground Glass?
How could I judge whether the vibration is too much? (Can it be “too much”?)
    Dirt/Dust problems?

I read through the manual online and still wonder about judging condition.

    Thanks much,
    Ralph

Dirt and dust can be an issue, but they can be fairly easily disassembled for cleaning. I actually rewired mine so I can take it apart more easily. That being said, mine has been sitting unused for some months now, so make me an offer! It’s set up to connect to an HVX-200 and it has a Nikon lens mount. If you are interested, I can take some photos.

    Hi Jason,

Thanks for the info. You sound pretty handy at wiring, etc. I guess I’ll get good at going as deep as I can in order to clean.

Any other abnormal possibilities to look for that are more troublesome, or a bad sign of the mechanical/optical condition of the unit?

Thanks!… and thanks for the offer on your Letus, but I’m in the process of a purchase (and subsequent eval) of one right now.

    -R.

Are you able to lay hands on it? I had the power switch on mine go out at one point, so check that to make sure it powers up immediately and repeatedly.
