Use of Gain or EV compensation in low light?
Hi there,
I am fairly new to videography and I have what I’m sure is a newbie question. I know that using gain adds noise, but if you find yourself in a low-light situation and you cannot add more light and you have to opened your aperture fully should you:
a) Up the video gain to get a better exposure?
b) Shoot dark and try to lighten in post?
c) Increase the EV setting (not as familiar with this) to get a a better exposure?
I have a Sony NEX VG10 and will be shooting in low light situations so I appreciate you input.
I am well versed in Final Cut and am aware of, but have not yet used, “Neat Video” if the concensus is to use gain to get a better exposure in low-light.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
