Camtram or Dana Dolly recommendation
Okay, I’ve narrowed my search down from a slider to a wider dolly. I have a Canon 5D mark 2, Sachtler DV12sb, and I want a portable dolly.
I see that the Dana Dolly has some 5D footage on their site, and wonder if anyone has tried their system. It’s speedrail, and I haven’t tried dolly-ing on speedrail. https://www.danadolly.com
The Camtram is a ladder-based system, which is more stabile, but harder to make short and long, and transport. https://www.camtram.com
I want to use a head to pan, and I don’t want to spend too much on a slider dolly. If someone has an alternative dolly suggestion, I would like that, too. I need to stay mobile, as I do a lot of industrial videos. Anyone tried either of these dollies?

Hi Ben,
I had an opportunity to try both and I liked the Camtram better for stability, build and reliability but at $2,899 it’s not cheap. It does require a longer set up time(not too much) but provides more consistent shots. The silicom O rings run very smooth and the height of the Hihat is adjustable. You can also offset the camera or run it upside-down.
I think for you the Dana dolly would be a good option for you. If you ever need anything bigger, you can always rent it.
Side note: You should consider a system like steadicam to complement your dolly . We do a lot corporate stuff and we cannot do without our rig. It saves so much time and money on every shoot.

I actually decided to go with the Dana Dolly and like it very much. After trying the Camtram, it was a little too complex for my use. This dolly is very easy to use and smooth, and the stands are easier to move around and adjust. So far we’ve had it six months, and it is great. I would highly recommend it.
