POV camera
I need some small cameras to mount on vehicles (for driver POV and for the driver himself), and am curious as to what you all are using. There are a number of inexpensive cameras (FlipHD, Contour) which seem to make great pictures in the right light, but when the angle and as a result, the light, shift, the auto-exposure mode kicks in, they get fooled by white sky (for example) into underexposing.
When I started researching this question, I realized that some of the tiny AVCHD cameras probably offer a lot more bang for the buck (manual exposure, manual focus, and even XLR inputs) than the “obvious” choices. They are a little bit bigger, but I’m not helmet-mounting. The biggest challenge is to find one with a wide-angle lens. I can hardly resist the option to glue a wide-angle auxiliary lens onto a Flip, though….
