Tripod problem (fluid head)
We’re using a Manfrotto 3274 fluid head, and no matter what we dial on the tension it is still super tight. We made sure it wasn’t the locks, and the tension knob is pulled out when it is turned too (we thought that was the problem at first). Before I take this somewhere to be looked at, do you guys have any ideas as to why this might be happening? The tripod was purchased used.

Perhaps the fluid is missing, or under pressure?

I know that answer sounded weird, however, I did once come across a fluid head where the gel inside had solidified or emulsified or something, it was nasty. I have also heard of fluid heads developing leaks after long flights in unpressurized cargo holds.

So am I totally screwed then? How would I go about getting it repaired if that’s the case?

I’ve had similar problems with a Bogen 3066, which is made by Manfrotto. My fluid head had tilt issues. Anyway, I sent it off to Bogen repairs. Speedy service and reasonably priced. Their e-mail is: service@bogenimaging.com
