  Stabilizing Car Mount Footage

  I have some footage that was shot with the Canon 5D on a car mount looking out of the passenger side window. The problem is that the road was rough in some spots causing shaky areas.

  Is there a way to stabilize this in After Effects (using version CS4)?

  I know how to stabilize and track footage if there’s a consistent point that can be tracked, but with this type of driving shot the image is always changing and there’s nothing to track.

  Honestly, I’d find someone with Final Cut Pro or Shake and use the Smoothcam filter. Otherwise, you’ll have to use multiple track points. Check out the videocopilot tutorial on set extensions to find out how to do it.

  Thanks Bill. I was unaware of the smoothcam filter in Final Cut. Would a program like Snake Eyes be helpful? If it will truly solve the problems we have with these shots then it’s within our budget.
