    My problem is less with the key being on the wrong side, and more with the camera framing and “look space” being wrong.

    Mark and Rick are so right. Do search this site and you’ll find lots of suggestions but keep in mind, no matter how much you spend on lights, or the coolest camera, you should first understand “how” to light properly for the given situation and mood. Good lighting tells a much better story than just good lights.
