I’m running Avid 2019.7 … should I upgrade???
I’m currently running Avid MC 2019.7 on a 21.5″ iMac (2019) … I’m finding it a bit sluggish and am wondering if going to a newer version of MC would help. I’m in the middle of an edit for a UK broadcaster and I don’t want to faff around too much with complicated workarounds etc. Is 2019.12 a better bet than 2019.7? Is 2020.4 ok and is there a simple way that I can output a Quicktime or similar for my Edit Producer … who will freak out if I say they have to download an application other that QT player to watch the cuts.

The latest 2019.12 should be OK but I’m not sure you will see much performance improvement.
2020.4 has the new UME for outputting that can do quicker H264 exports as. Movs
But upgrade mid job. Not me.
You would need new user settings for 2020.4
How much ram do you have?
How much media can MC access?
Any of it you can hide?

16GB of RAM
1.15TB of media on a 4TB Thunderbolt drive
No AMA stuff at allI just seem to be spending a lot of time looking at spinning beach balls
I do have a couple of big group clips (FS7 and GoPro rushes synced up) but even so … silly things like opening a web browser take an age too!
Maybe I should call Jigsaw who supplied it and see if they can help.

If opening a Web browser is causing a hang then I can’t see how MC upgrade will help.
Does this happen from a fresh start in the morning? Or does performance deteriorate over the day?
Look at the cpu and ram usage when it’s running well and compare it to when it’s sluggish.Pat Horridge

Is 16GB of RAM on the low side? Would a RAM upgrade help, do you think?

Probably. Looking at ram usage will tell. But yes I only suggest 16gb for simple jobs. 32gb normally 64gb or more for higher end.
