I checked out Lee’s tutorial on usinf AE to create animations for flash, great tutorial by the way, and it got me excited about the prospects since I feel it is much easier to do complex animations in ae than in flash. However, after some experimenting it is difficult for me to understand, even generally, what EA can maintain as a vector and what it must rasterize when exporting to a .swf.

After some testing Im assuming flash wont support AE masks at all. Is this correct? I created some simple text and attempted to animate it by turning it into a 3D layer and animating a camera layer, I thought after watching the tutorial that this would work, but the text would not show up unless I allowed it to rasterize when it was exported.

Caan any one give me some general rules about what can and cannot be exported to a swf from AE. And what I must do to maintian my vectors?

Thanks in advance for any insight anyone has.

p.s. I posted this question in the flash forum as well.

Text and Path Text will export fine. You can use masks, but they have to all be in Add or Difference mode (and they all have to be the same). No 3D. No precomps. No Effects. No collapse transformations. It’s all listed in the help somewhere.
