  How can I use the Leave Color effect multiple times?

  I have a video file with four flags flying in front of a blue sky background that I’m trying to use the leave color effect on. Basically, I want the four flags to be color and everything else B&W.

  One flag is the American flag and the other three are identical state flags that are mostly a blue color and a very similar hue to the blue sky background.

  The leave color effect works perfect with the American flag only but leaves the other 3 flags B&W. The blue in the 3 identical flags is so similar to the sky background that I can’t isolate them.

  I’m looking for an easier solution than animating masks around the individual flags, or essentially rotoscoping everything.

  I’ve already tried the solution here:

  …but it doesn’t work in this case because the blue in the flags is too similar to the blue in the sky background.

  If your sky is blue with no clouds you can try to fake a clean plate (paint out a clean sky frame in psd ) and pull a difference matte. If you got clouds you can still try to paint the clean plate but it may be harder.

  If you have CS5, you can try using the Rotobrush to isolate the flags.
  If you don’t, you could TRY auto trace.

  You will need to either use primatte keyer with plug holes turned up, autotrace, or a procedural keyer if you don’t want to roto. Then those will be setup for a track matte. If you post a screeny, I could get a better idea.

  Here’s my free AE cs3 procedural keyer for luma/sat.
  use matte adj controls layer to create a procedural matte keyer using the inner/outer sliders.
