I’ve been handed card copies from a Sony RX100 point and shoot. Wondering about a couple things. Video recorded as 1920 by 1080 at 23.976 to MP4 files. Avid does not like those files for AMA or import. As far as I can tell, there are no AMA related tools to help with this? Is there any tool that can help with this? or in 2016, are we still digging the video files out of Sony’s busy card file structure, converting them manually and importing them?

I’ve downloaded Sony’s Catalyst Browse and Prepare, as far as I can see, these offer no advantage over any manual process.

I’m also trying to find the best way to add timecode that in some way related to the file creation time. Canon’s THM files have been one way to do that, with video shot on a Canon camera. These Sony files all have an accompanying XML file that seem to hold exactly the info I need. any software take advantage of that?

Also interested in anyone having better experiences doing this in Premiere.

    thank you.

So manually choosing the QUICKTIME AMA plugin, and accessing these files doesn’t bring them in? That should work. As for the XML files, Avid doesn’t read them at all…it doesn’t do XML.

you can see if EditReady will convert those files to DNxHD QT, and port over the time of day code…not sure it will, you simply drag in the MP4 file…not the XML. You might have to do without that info if you use Avid. This is a consumer point and shoot camera, it really isn’t meant for high end professional use, so it might not even consider what Avid does with anything.

will not AMA or import through Avid. I was just hoping that the convoluted and busy file structure Sony uses would finally present some useful and usable information. So manual it is. okay thanks.

Well, the higher end cameras DO have this. Point and shoots really are meant for family video where they just play it back…or perhaps use some PC editing software by Sony to edit it. HIgh end wasn’t a thought when they made this.
