BlackMagic UltraStudio 4K
Does anyone here have an UltraStudio 4K with their Avid MC on Mac?
With our set-up I cant have Monitor Out working with this setup.
I first thought it as Multi-Cam causing the issue but now seeing it with regular playback.
And this is with a XDCAM 1080p DNxHD100 format project.
Same with AMA R3D project but thats to be expected.
The issue is after about 20seconds into playback it starts to crap out both video and audio.
This is with lower setting on sequence playback.
Avid MC 8.3.1
MacPro D700 8core 64GB RAM

Installed Avid MC 7.0.4 and Black Magic Desktop Video 10.1.1. on a newly formatted Mac Pro running 10.9.4.
The client monitor playback is pristine and no visible issues to date.
I will now update to Avid MC 8.2 and leave the Desktop Video at 10.1.1. to see if that works.
I suspect its Avid MC 8.3. that’s causing all this since all our new Mac Pros with 8.3 are acting up with the UltraStudio 4K. -
So after all that running around trying to get this MC back to its last known working form, all it took was an update to OS 10.9.5.
Now why didnt I think of that?
Well for starters the last time I updated MC was 8.3 and back then 10.9.4 was the “approved” OS or so I thought.
Even after dealing with support they did not even mention anything about the version I had.
I guess we all assumed if it works with 10.9.5 then it should work with the older OS…sure fooled me.
All is good again and I am running MC 8.3.1 with Desktop Video 10.3.7 on a new Mac Pro with OS 10.9.5.
Sure I can dabble and move up to Yosemite to take advantage of my LG 31MU97 4K LCD but I think I pulled out enough hairs this last few days 😛 -

Just installed DesktopVideo 10.4….drum roll…..

10.4 is bunk!
Now I get the Exception Playback error, yes an oldy but a goody Error that Avid to date (were talking years) have not helped me fix.
At least it just plays for about two minutes then stops.
The older issues the audio and video would start to degrade then stop.
Back to 10.3.5 for me.
After NAB of course 😉

Just flew in from Vegas and my arms are tired…seriously with $2 Coronas on Fremont they are tired 😉
So now Im faced with un-installing everything all over again.
However the tast will have me starting on OS 10.9.5.
I dont want to format the drive to fix this issue.
There are known issues with DV 10.4 and Avid so dont bother.
I am now at Avid MC 8.2 and hoping an older DV driver will work.
This has been a horrible trip (thank god for NAB) for me 😛
