    Hi there..

We have just bought a new Z840 (12coreX2 with a Quadra k5000) for our main edit suite.. I can put the NitrusDX back in play BUT 4k is a growing need!

Is anyone really using BM or AJA cards on proper jobs with performance and feeling happy?… (from editing on Avid when it just worked I like things working and stable)

If so it would be lovely if you could share your setup!

My preference is Avid comes out with a new DX 4k and I can trade in? Any NAB whispers?

    Things I need…

4k and quad HD play to monitor both from HDMI and HDSDI (but not the same time)
When playing to HDMI I also would love a reasonble HD scale on the HDSDI out??
NO 4k INJEST! I will be file based for ever!
XLR audio monitor cabling is best for me..
I would love to use a BM card or TB box becuase I use Davinci BUT a working box is more of a priority..

    thank you

    MIchael L

PS maybe I could use the DX via thunderbolt and then switch to a TB BM or AJA box when I need to do 4k?

I wouldn’t yet. AJA IO has been good but a few glitches since 8.3 BM is a life of hurt. Laggy. Issues with tge card, drivers. Had one editor walk away it was so bad.

On the new Mac Pro side we have the UltraStudio 4K working decent with Avid MC 8.3.1.
However there are issues and not necessarily in a 4K format either.
I have to shut monitor off to avoid horrible playback.
Happens about 20 seconds of playback in.
At first I thought it was only a Multi-Cam issue but its an issue period.
I havent got around to dealing with Tech on this matter.
The bonus from our end is that the ROCKET is being utilized (not Full Debayer) during playback with AMA R3D 4K files from the UltraStudio to an LED 4K at QuadHD.
Cant seem to get that working with REDCINE via US4K 😛

    thanks for the heads up!

    Lets see what NAB brings…

realsitically a great 4k i/o card/bob would have some long term legs so I am hopeing Avid have one. TB2 as a interface would be good (HP840 compatible)

I’m pretty happy with AJA IO4K on a Macbookpro still on Mavericks and Avid MC 8.3.1.
