    Hi
we recently had an audience test screening that was projected on a DCP. The audience reaction was videoed at 23.98 fps. When I imported it into our 23.98 fps Avid project the 2 did not sync.

I discovered that since DCP projects at 24 fps that could be the problem, so I converted the timeline of our movie to 24 fps and opened a new 24fps project. I then imported the 23.98 video of the audience reaction. It was better but still is 146 frames out on a 2 hour movie.

Is the fact that is isn’t syncing just due to audio delay from the screening room? if so how do I over come that. Or is there another conversion I can do of the original movie or of the video of the audience.

Any suggestions on the workflow appreciated.

    thanks

Take the audio file that was recorded and open it in Sound Devices’ Wave Agent and reset the sample rate to 47.952. Import this into your original 23.976 project. This will change the speed/duration by .1% and compensate for the 23.976/24 fps issue.

I blogged and created a spreadsheet that you can enter values to calculate sample rate for different frame rates here: https://24p.com/wordpress/?p=195
