Unable to AMA Link to C300 Files (Media Composer 7.0.4)
Posted by Katelin Stevens on December 1, 2014 at 7:21 pmI’m having a terrible time trying to AMA link to some footage that was shot on a Canon C300.
I have installed the Canon Plugin and have the MXF plugin that comes with 7.0.4 (MXP_MSF Plug-in 1.10.2.7210). The installer on Avid’s AMA plugin website doesn’t allow me to install a new MXF plugin.
I can link to the clips now, but can’t play them back.
Can anyone help please? Thanks!!

December 1, 2014 at 7:54 pmAvid needs more than just that one AMA plugin. I am not sure which others, but when I install ALL of the available AMA plugins, the import works. So one of the other ones helps in some way. And every time I have someone install all of them the import of C300 works.
i’ll need to narrow that down one day.

December 1, 2014 at 7:59 pmOk, I’m wondering if it’s the Alexa plugin I need. It seems I have to make a login in order to download it but I’ll give it a try.
Thanks so much for the quick response. It was driving me nuts!

December 1, 2014 at 8:39 pmIt also helps to back up your C300 cards to a hard drive (internal best, external with plenty of throughput), if you’re going to edit the clips via AMA. Much better performance than trying to do it straight from the CF cards. However, make sure your backups have the EXACT SAME file/folder structure that they do on the CF cards or Avid won’t be able to find them. Canon XF Utility works great for this…

December 1, 2014 at 8:49 pmDefinitely. I’m working off of an external hard drive my producer used for subclipping (he saved the bins and I relinked the clips). I can AMA link to them but can’t play them back. I think I narrowed it down to 2 plugins I’m missing.

December 1, 2014 at 9:02 pmIf you are AMA linked then you should not be missing any plugins – If you are having trouble with playback then you need to transcode, which is the proper workflow and is generally mandatory in almost all cases. Always transcode to Avid DNxHD media to avoid headaches later 🙂

December 1, 2014 at 9:08 pmOk I installed all of the plugins on the list except for “Sphere” which it says comes with the package, but for some reason I’m missing it?
And I’m getting this error – “Cannot access the AMA media stream plugin to play this clip”
I get the error when I double click to play back, and when I try to transcode.
